Treehouse Safety
It's so fun to want to make your backyard a playhaven for your kids. But you have to think about little things that can potentially cause big danger for your kids. That's why backyard safety is so important. If you have a pool, you should have rules for pool safety. If you have a trampoline, you need rules about trampoline safety. And if you have a treehouse, you need rules about treehouse safety. And besides just having the rules, make sure your kids actually understand them.
Treehouse Safety Rules
Before you start construction on a treehouse, make sure the tree you are building it in is very, very sturdy. Once you've made that determination, make sure you have a good floorplan to work from. Don't just go into it haphazardly. If you can afford it, maybe you should hire a professional to build it for you.
When it comes to building a safe treehouse, there are lots of little things to think about (and we don't just mean your little ones). Consider these things:
- The wood should be a strong and durable
- The wood should be sanded down enough that it's splinter-free
- The ladder should be a double-rung ladder
- The rails should be tightly-spaced
- The decking and ladder rungs should be non-slip
- If you have windows that you want covered with some sort of glass, use the kind of windows used in bus shelters that don't break
- Make sure there's a safety rail of some sort at the top of the ladder so that nobody can fall out
- Make sure there are no nails sticking out of the wood or any hardware that can pinch or snag loose clothing or little fingers
- Don't allow running around the tree house
Hopefully these treehouse safety guidelines will give your children a cool and safe treehouse to play in.
