Bathtub Safety
It is not just the elderly and infants who get hurt in bathtubs, there are many accidents that can and do occur to healthy adults. But there are many simple, and not so simple, ways of providing bathtub safety in your home. Once upon a time there were only the standard rubber mats that were supposed to suction onto the bottom of the tub, but there are many more things that can be done now to make your tub even safer.
Bathtub safety ideas for people of all ages
As we mentioned before, one of the more common bathtub safety products that have been used by many people over the years were the rubber mats that adhered to the bottom of the tub with suction cups. If you have had them then you know that they can make cleaning the tub even more of a chore, that they sometimes fail to adhere properly, and that they do not look very good. Now there are many products that do an even better job and can compliment the decor of any bathroom. We would not recommend the stickers as they will peel away after time and leave a stain in the tub. The best idea we have come across is a coating that actually becomes a part of the tub. It is not stuck on like the stickers, but is expertly poured into the bottom of the tub. You can even have it match the exact color of the tub so that it is not noticeable at all.
Bathtub rails are another great idea and are especially useful for seniors. There are available in many varieties and price ranges to suit all tastes and budgets. There are also many handle-type rails that can come easily on and off and come in handy when there are little kinds in the house that still need help washing up from mom and dad. They have a very strong suction cup that can be moved anytime, but stays in place when you need it.
A more extravagant bathroom safety idea is to add bathtub lighting. In some bathrooms there is simply not enough light for using the tub. Bathtub lighting can be set on a dimmer as well, to give you just the right amount of light. It is also a lovely accent to any bathroom to have the lights set into the walls of the tub.
