Fire Safety Week

This fire safety week is all about prevention. When it comes to a big blaze, the littlest spark can play a major role. Any flame has the potential to become a towering inferno, even the flame from a candle. Many house fires are caused because people underestimate the power of the smaller flames (matches, candles, cigarettes, incense, etc.). Fire is fire, no matter which form it comes in. So when it comes to fire safety, the small is just as important as the big. Here are some tips for dealing with flames, big and small. Make this fire safety week count.

Fire Safety Week -- Preventing Fires

Candles -- When it comes to candles, so much can happen. First of all, candles seem so insignificant that we don't even pay attention to them. Candles are set in the background as part of ambience, causing us to neglect them and ignore them. But that's where the danger lies. You forget about a candle for mere seconds, and in minutes your entire home can be ablaze.

Cigarettes -- Another fire risk we really don't think of as such are cigarettes. Because the are so small and the flame is barely enough to set off a smoke alarm by itself, we don't think of it being a risk as much. But many houses have caught fire by still-lit cigarettes being disposed of in the trash or being left close to loose fabric.

Incense -- The same goes for incense. Many do not put out their incense when they leave the room, or even home. The tiny flame on the tip of the incense can easily burn through fabric, causing a fire.

Make sure this fire safety week you pay more attention to the danger lurking around your home. Follow fire safety tips. Each fire safety tip is there for a reason.

The most important message of fire safety week is to have all your smoke alarm sin place in your home and to make sure that existing ones are functioning properly. There is no excuse for not having these essential fire safety products in your home.
