Don't slack with stove safety

The stove is one of the most dangerous kitchen appliances in the home, but it is also one that we cannot do without and one that we use on a daily basis, often several times per day. As a result of the inherent danger that it presents, each year we hear of awful accidents that are usually a result of negligence - don't let this happen to you or your loved ones practice and teach stove safety in your house.

Do not underestimate the worth of kitchen safety, follow these tips to make the kitchen a safe place.

Keep anything combustible well away from the stove.
Never leave anything cooking unattended.
Turn all of the handles of pots and pans turned inward. Sleeves can easily snag on a handle and arms can quickly spill hot liquids that will scald before you have time to react.
In the event of a grease fire, do NOT dowse with water, carefully cover the pan with its lid to put the fire out and then switch off the burner.
Keep children well away from the stove. If you are alone with small children, place them in a playpen or a highchair where you know that will be safe even if you turn away from them.
Use potholders and oven mitts to take things off the stove
Keep all of the treats for the kids, like candy and cookies, far away from the stove, so that if they reach for them there is no chance of getting burned.
Roll up your sleeves to prevent them from catching on fire. If you have long or flowing sleeves keep them closer to your body and bring them up above the elbow.
Keep the stove area clean of spills that could catch fire again and free of any clutter.
