Wood Stoves Safety
If you have ever lived in homes that have wood stoves, then you know just how nice it can be to sit by after a cold jaunt outside. There is nothing quite like it and if you have only been exposed to central heating then you are definitely missing out. People that do have them in their homes know that feeling, they also know that to keep that feeling for years to come they must practice wood stoves safety whenever they are using the stove and keeping it maintained in the off season.
Keep up on your wood stoves safety
One of the biggest dangers that wood stoves present in the home is to the children if there are any that live in the home. This might just be the most important wood stoves safety tips that you can get - make sure that the children always stay far away from the stove and are taught early on that it can cause major burns. As children are naturally curious, you might invite them to help you to make the fire as you stand there with them, this way they get some of their curiosity sated so they will not be so inclined to go near it when you are not looking.
That having been said, we can move on to other aspects of wood stove safety:
- Only burn wood that has dried throughly, this way you will have less soot to deal with and the fire will burn hotter.
- Make sure that there are smoke detectors throughout the house.
- Never use lighter fluid or gasoline to light the fire or re-light it after it has gone out
- If you are just now installing a wood stove, make sure that it is installed properly and that no corners are cut with either the materials that are used or the speed by which it is installed.
