Get to know hurricane Wilma

Hurricane Wilma was the 3rd category 5 storm that hit the Atlantic Basin during the 2005 hurricanes. She was also the last to be named according to the Latin alphabet (the one that we use), after her we could only move onto the Greek letters. Never before in recorded history has there been enough storms to actually run out of letters! Like any hurricane, we were able to watch and gauge her progress as she came through the Gulf of Mexico after devastating the Mexican coastline. The only advantage over a hurricane we have is that we know that it is coming and therefore we have sufficient time to put all of our hurricane safety measures into place. A week before the storm came to the shores of south Florida many of us were busy stocking our homes with the necessary items. People in south Florida could also take solace in the fact that FEMA had also come with a number of semis filled with emergency relief supplies.

The tricky thing about hurricanes is that, even if you know that they are coming in your general direction, you never really know exactly where it is going to make landfall. You also cannot gauge the strength of it in the future. There are many factors that come into play when it comes to hurricane sand other weather systems. It could lose or gain strength as we watch it moving steadily along. The only thing that is left to do in the end is prepare for the worst case scenario and double check that all weather safety considerations have been made.
